February 2012 Pastor Newsletter
Dear Beloved,
It is wonderful to see our church full on Sunday mornings as our winter friends have returned. God is so good to us in blessing us with Spirit-filled services and several new families making commitments to Fifth Street during the last month. Our “Campers on Mission” are hard at work doing various projects around the facility. I know that it can make for a crowded service and limited parking but these are good problems to have! I want to thank our church family and regular guests for being so patient and accommodating to our visiting guests. Keep up the good work and friendly atmosphere that makes Fifth Street such a special place to worship and belong!
I hope you are finding our current series on prayer to be both educational and challenging. Several have come to me and commented that some of the principles learned are helping them to view prayer from a different perspective than they had previously. We will continue this series through the end of the month with one Sunday morning exception.
The “Feast of Tabernacles”, also called the Feast of Booths or Sukkoth, takes place on the Jewish calendar in late September-early October. God commanded that the Jews observe this feast in Leviticus 23: 29-43. It serves as a reminder of the Exodus when the people lived in temporary shelters. It also acknowledged God’s provision of the fall harvest. There are some important connections between this feast and our Christian faith. On February 12 Peter Colon from the “Friends of Israel” gospel ministry will present this feast’s meaning to us during the morning service. Peter did a similar presentation last year on “Christ and the Passover” and it was hugely inspiring and informative. You will want to come early to get a good seat and bring a friend with you!
We will continue our study of the Old Testament Tabernacle on Wednesday nights and the “Cult and False Faith” study on Sunday nights with a special emphasis on the Mormon Church beginning Feb 12 in showing part 1 of the video “The Mormon Puzzle”. Please stay informed through the bulletin and other information channels for the latest church events. I hope to see you each and every service with a bible in my hand and a message on my heart.
Sincerely Yours and Securely His,
Brother Ozzie
